What is acne scar treatment, and is it right for me?
Acne scar treatment at Liftique is a dermatologist-planned combination program for depressed boxcar, ice pick and rolling scars. Potenza RF microneedling, Pico Fraxel laser, Juvelook collagen-stimulating injections and subcision are combined by scar type, typically over 5 sessions a month apart. Expect redness and crusting for several days to a few weeks, gradual improvement, and sessions from ₩280,000.
A scar plan built on what each scar needs
Acne scars form when deep inflammation damages collagen in the skin. Most are depressed scars: narrow, deep ice pick scars; broader boxcar scars with defined edges; and rolling scars, where bands of tissue tether the skin from below and create an uneven, wave-like surface. Many people have a mix of all three.
Because each type sits at a different depth, a single device rarely treats them all. At Liftique, your scars are analysed with 2D Mark-Vu photography and treated with a combination designed for your skin, including long-standing scars that improved only slowly with a single procedure.
Boxcar scars
Wider depressions with defined edges, treated with Pico Fraxel and Potenza, plus CO2 shouldering for firm margins.
Ice pick scars
Narrow, deep scars treated with fractional pico laser and RF microneedling, planned by depth.

Scar mapping
A board-certified dermatologist analyses your scars with 2D Mark-Vu photography and identifies the type and depth of each one. If you still have active breakouts, these are assessed too and may be treated first.

Releasing tethered scars
For rolling and tethered scars, cannula subcision is performed together with Juvelook Volume injection to help prevent re-tethering. Needle subcision may be added where shallower tethering needs release.

Resurfacing and rebuilding
Potenza delivers radiofrequency energy into the dermis through fine needles, while Pico Fraxel creates micro-injuries beneath boxcar and ice pick scars, a laser subcision effect, to stimulate collagen. Juvelook Skin supports collagen regeneration.

Refining and repeating
For scars with firm edges, CO2 shouldering and Belotero scar filler may be added. Sessions take 20 to 40 minutes and are repeated at 1-month intervals, typically as a 5-session program.

Safety, risks and aftercare
Scar treatments trigger controlled skin repair, so temporary reactions are expected.
- Redness, swelling and fine crusting that may last from several days to several weeks, depending on the combination.
- Bruising and swelling after subcision, usually settling within 1 to 2 weeks.
- Temporary darkening of the skin (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) is possible after laser; the risk with Pico Fraxel is considered low.
- Injectables such as Juvelook and Belotero can cause temporary swelling, tenderness, bruising or small lumps.
- Infection or new scarring are uncommon but possible with any procedure that breaks the skin.
- Improvement is gradual and partial; most scars soften rather than disappear completely, and results vary.
- Tell us about active acne, cold sores, a tendency to keloid scars, recent isotretinoin use, pregnancy or blood-thinning medication.

Which acne scar types can you treat?
We treat depressed acne scars, including boxcar, ice pick and rolling scars, and many people have a mix. Raised keloid or hypertrophic scars are treated differently, with laser and scar injections.
How many sessions will I need?
Our combination program is typically 5 sessions at 1-month intervals. Subcision may need 3 or more sessions, and Pico Fraxel alone is usually 5 to 10 sessions. Your dermatologist will suggest a plan after mapping your scars.
How much downtime should I plan for?
It depends on the combination. Potenza alone usually settles in about 1 to 3 days and Pico Fraxel in about 3 to 7 days, while subcision can cause bruising and swelling for 1 to 2 weeks. A full combination session may mean redness and crusting for several days to several weeks.
Is acne scar treatment painful?
We use our pain-control system, with numbing cream, a gentle injection technique, nerve block and oral analgesics as needed, at no extra cost. Sleep sedation is available for ₩200,000 and requires an 8-hour fast.
What is subcision?
Subcision releases the fibrous bands that tether a depressed scar to deeper tissue. At Liftique, cannula subcision is combined with Juvelook Volume for deeper tethering, and needle subcision may be used for shallower tethering. The add-on is ₩200,000 when combined with Belotero scar filler.
Can I treat acne scars if I still have breakouts?
Active acne is often brought under control first, because ongoing inflammation can create new scars. Your dermatologist may recommend acne treatment before or alongside your scar plan.
Will my scars disappear completely?
Acne scar treatment aims for gradual, visible improvement in depth and texture, but scars usually soften rather than disappear completely. Results vary with scar type, depth and skin.
How do I plan scar treatment around international travel?
Because sessions are spaced a month apart, many visitors plan return trips or combine treatment with a longer stay. Allow for visible downtime before flights or photos, and your doctor can review your progress by photo once you are home.
